Attaching the transmitter
- The transmitter is to be sewn on by a veterinary surgeon after the mare has been given a local anaesthetic.
- It is recommendable to attach the transmitter to the mare approx. 1 to 2 weeks before foaling to achieve ideal performance.
- Use only the following types of thread in order to attach the device: Supramide white, polyamide threads 6, pseudo-monofil, non-absorbable, 6 metric, 3 & 4 USP.
Preparation of the mare
The mare is prepared and held back for a “Caslick” procedure. The lips of the vulva are thoroughly cleaned and rinsed. A local anaesthetic is applied where the stitches are to be positioned. Take care to ensure that the knots are firm so that the whole appliance does not become too loose when the swelling subsides after the anaesthetic. Underneath the knot you can attach a small piece of water-repellent material (swimming cap or diving suit material for example), as this ensures a better distribution of pressure. In order to prolong the transmitter’s life duration, it is important for the magnet to remain in the magnet holder during sewing on. A knot has to be made in the magnet loop, the smaller the horse breed, the closer zhe knot has to be to the magnet.
